About Oliver
Every journey begins with a question.
Mine began with an experience that changed the course of my life.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working in several professions that have shaped the way I understand people, decision-making, and personal growth. As an airline captain, I have witnessed the importance of Human Factors, leadership, communication, and teamwork in environments where decisions can have significant consequences. As a professor and researcher, I have explored these same questions from an academic perspective, seeking evidence rather than assumptions.
A Journey Across Disciplines
My professional career has taken me across multiple countries and cultures, allowing me to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and professions. International aviation provided a unique opportunity to observe how communication, leadership, resilience, and decision-making influence performance under pressure.
At the same time, my work in higher education introduced a different perspective. Academic research offered the opportunity to investigate these observations through structured inquiry, critical thinking, and evidence-based analysis.
Over time, these two worlds—practical experience and academic research—became increasingly interconnected. Rather than viewing them as separate disciplines, I began to see them as complementary ways of understanding the complexity of human behaviour.
The Beginning of PSI
The Personal Stability Index (PSI) was not created as a motivational concept or self-help philosophy.
It emerged from years of observation, reflection, interdisciplinary study, and the desire to better understand why people respond differently to similar life experiences.
PSI combines insights from psychology, human performance, resilience, mindset, purpose, stress, and environmental influences into a structured framework designed to encourage understanding rather than judgement.
The framework continues to evolve through research, collaboration, and ongoing validation, reflecting my belief that meaningful scientific work is never truly finished.
What
I Believe
I believe that curiosity is one of the most powerful drivers of human progress.
Every meaningful discovery begins with a question.
Rather than offering simple solutions, I hope my work encourages people to think critically, challenge assumptions, and better understand themselves and the world around them.
Whether through research, teaching, aviation, writing, or speaking, my goal remains the same: to contribute knowledge that is practical, evidence-based, and capable of making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
